Palisades Reads

Palisades Reads started four years ago as a yearly book discussion along the lines of One Book One City.

It has now expanded to several book annually.

The schedule for 2013:

- "Re-imaging the California Lawn" by Carol Bornstein, David Fross, Bart O'Brien. Carol Bornstein discussed the book at Grow Native Nursery in the Vet's Garden.

- "Behind the Beautiful Forevers" by Katherine Boo, a National Book Award Finalist in 2012. The discussion for this will be in the fall. Kathleen Jackson will be the discussion leader.

Jimmy Williams and Susan Heeger discuss "From Seed to Skillet" at Village Books. This book by Jimmy, a vendor at the Wednesday and Saturday Santa Monica Farmers' Market, tells you how to grow vegetables organically.

Past selections of Palisades Reads include: The Soloist, Mountains beyond Mountains, Animal, Vegetable, Miracle, Anticancer. We donate copies of the book selections and DVDs to our local library. Donations to date include DVDs of Forks over Knives, Tapped, Ingredients and Anticancer. Book donations include The Barbarian Nurseries, Animal, Vegetable Miracle, Anticancer, The Soloist and Re-imagining the California Lawn.
